增程为“破内卷”最优解?5月批发销量增近五成 小米、尚界等七品牌将首入局

① Spy photos of a high-end extended range large six-seater SUV, possibly named Xiaomi YU9, have been exposed. ② According to incomplete Statistics from 财联社 reporters, from the second half of 2025 to 2026, at least seven brands will enter the extended range electric vehicle market, including 尚界, 智己, and 一汽-大众.

On June 11th, 财联社 reported (Reporter Zhang Yipeng) that after being recognized as the mainstream of the new energy automotive industry, the 'extended range electric vehicle' sector has become the optimal solution for more automakers to boost sales and break through the competition.

On June 10th, Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis announced that it is planning a product strategy for EREV (extended range electric vehicles), which will develop a compatible vehicle structure based on the next-generation pure electric platform. On the same day, BMW's 'restart of the extended range' plan was leaked, with reports indicating that BMW hopes to alleviate the lack of charging infrastructure by restarting the extended range power system, with the first model featuring this system being the upcoming sixth generation X5. It is reported that the rapid rise in popularity of this type of power product in markets like China is one of the main reasons for BMW's decision.

"Currently, there is no relevant information." Regarding the restart of the extended range technology route, said a related person from BMW China.

The Chinese extended range electric vehicle market, widely valued by foreign automotive enterprises, will not be ignored by some domestic companies that have yet to enter.

Several days ago, spy photos of a high-end extended range large six-seater SUV, possibly named Xiaomi YU9, were exposed. Regarding extended range technology and product planning, although Xiaomi founder, Chairman, and CEO Lei Jun has not made any public statements, hints have already appeared in Xiaomi Auto's recruitment information.

Recruitment platforms show that the recruiting party 'Xiaomi Group' includes positions such as 'Xiaomi Auto - Power - RBOB Gasoline System Engineer' and 'Xiaomi Auto - Extended Range Energy Management Calibration Engineer', the latter's responsibilities include calibrating and testing the energy management functions of the extended range system, supporting or being responsible for overall vehicle energy consumption and emission-related strategy calibration, and requiring experience with at least one leading or primarily participated calibrated extended range system product in mass production.

Compared to Xiaomi Auto's low-key approach, Xiaopeng Motors is preparing to enter the market in a high-profile manner. At last year’s 2024 Xiaopeng AI Technology Day, Xiaopeng Motors launched its Kunpeng Super Electric System, in which 'Kun' represents the super extended range system, and 'Peng' represents the pure electric system. In April this year, Xiaopeng Motors Chairman He Xiaopeng announced that the Xiaopeng Kunpeng Super Electric System will begin mass production in mainland China in the fourth quarter of 2025. According to previous reports, Xiaopeng Motors has planned at least 5 extended range models, including sedans and SUVs, with the first extended range model based on the X9.

According to incomplete statistics from the Financial Association journalist, from the second half of 2025 to 2026, at least seven brands will enter the extended-range electric vehicle market, including Shangjie, Zhiji, and FAW-Volkswagen.

The latest data from the Passenger Vehicle Association shows that in May, 0.122 million extended-range vehicles were wholesaled, a year-on-year increase of 46.7% and a month-on-month increase of 29.4%; in May's New energy Fund wholesale structure, the proportion of extended-range vehicles was 9.8%, a year-on-year increase of 0.7% and a month-on-month increase of 1.5%.

In the view of Yang Yusheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, extended-range vehicles are not a transition, but the future mainstay of global Autos, as their green, safe, and long-range characteristics will contribute to carbon neutrality. "First, extended-range vehicles will gradually become mainstream Autos and contribute to carbon peaking; second, once green liquid fuels such as Methanol and ethanol are sufficient, extended-range vehicles will no longer rely on RBOB Gasoline. Green, safe, long-range, and inexpensive extended-range vehicles will accompany humanity in achieving carbon neutrality. For China, achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 means that extended-range vehicles can develop sustainably in the long term."
