Detectives investigating money laundering in the UK have seized 114 million pounds ($158.8 million) worth of cryptocurrency, the largest cryptocurrency ever seized in the UK and one of the largest in the world.
According to a press release issued by the Metropolitan Police, the seizure was carried out by agents from the economic crime command of Scotland Yard based on intelligence received on the transfer of criminal assets.
The investigation is ongoing, the statement said. More details are not yet available.
Graham McNalty, deputy assistant commissioner of Scotland Yard, said in a statement: "with the development of technology and online platforms, some institutions are turning to more complex methods of money laundering."
