Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core consumer price index rose at its fastest pace since the 1990s in May, extending a strong rally in April's CPI data.
Compared with the sharp fall in U.S. stocks on the day of the April CPI data, the U.S. stock market reacted calmly to the May CPI data this week, with the three major indexes closing slightly higher on Thursday, and the S & P 500 even hit an all-time intraday and closing high.
