HSBC HoldingsCEO (Noel Quinn) said on Monday that it had no plans to open a cryptocurrency trading platform or sell digital currencies to customers as investment products.
Qi Yaonian said in an interview that given the volatility of Bitcoin, the bank is not optimistic about it and will not promote Bitcoin as an asset class in its wealth management business.
HSBC's conservative view of Bitcoin is its long-standing position. Stevenson (Ewen Stevenson), the bank's chief financial officer, said in February that he remained cautious about bitcoin but was open to digital currencies, especially those linked to central banks.
Back in 2018, Fanning (John Flint), HSBC's former CEO, said the bank was "very sceptical" about cryptocurrencies.
