On May 20, local time, European Commission Executive Vice President Dombrovsky said that the European Union and the United States are working to resolve the dispute over aviation subsidies, and the two sides hope to find a solution by July 10 this year.
Dombrovsky also said on the same day that he and US Trade Representative Dai Qi held extensive and in-depth discussions on the issue of aviation subsidies and jointly confirmed the timetable for resolving the problem.
In March, the European Union and the United States announced that they would suspend their respective retaliatory tariffs related to the dispute over subsidies for large civil aircraft for four months until July 10 this year. If the two sides fail to find a solution during this period, retaliatory tariffs will be resumed from July 11.
The dispute over aviation subsidies in Europe and the United States can be traced back to 2004. The World Trade Organization has successively ruled that both the United States and European countries have the problem of providing illegal subsidies to their respective aviation enterprises.
