Hon Hai's net profit for the third quarter increased 14% year over year, and revenue hit a quarterly high. The company maintains expectations of a “significant” increase in sales in 2024, and expects AI servers to account for 50% of the company's total server revenue next year.
Driven by demand for servers driven by the AI boom, Hon Hai's third-quarter profit exceeded expectations, and it is expected that its AI server business will continue to grow strongly next year.
On November 14, Foxconn's parent company Hon Hai held a corporate briefing for the third quarter of 2024. Liu Yangwei, chairman of the company, said that AI will be the most important growth engine for the ICT industry and products in 2025. It is expected that the company's AI server shipments will increase quarterly, and AI servers will account for 50% of the company's total server revenue by 2025.
Liu Yangwei also pointed out that 2025 is the “AI Year of Artificial Intelligence.” Meanwhile, Hon Hai maintained expectations of a “significant” increase in sales in 2024, and revenue for the fourth quarter is expected to continue to grow year-on-year.
Regarding the third quarter results, he said that Hon Hai's performance exceeded expectations, and both gross profit margin and revenue reached new highs for the same period. Thanks to strong demand for AI servers, the company's net profit for the third quarter reached NT$49.325 billion (approximately US$1.52 billion), up 14% year over year, exceeding analysts' expectations of NT$46.09 billion. Revenue increased 20% year over year to NT$1.855 trillion, a record quarterly high.
Furthermore, Hon Hai revealed that the world's largest manufacturing plant is being built in Mexico to assemble the Nvidia GB200 superchip, which is the core component of Nvidia's next-generation Blackwell computing platform.
As the world's largest iPhone assembler, Hon Hai's business is closely related to Apple's business. About 40% of its revenue in the second quarter of this year came from the smart consumer electronics category, including iPhones. At the same time, Hon Hai has actively diversified its business lines in recent years and is playing an increasingly important role in building AI servers for Amazon, Nvidia, etc. The company's cloud and network business, which includes AI servers, is the second largest revenue source after consumer electronics, accounting for 32% of total revenue in the third quarter.
Despite global market sell-off in the third quarter due to concerns about a slowdown in the US economy, Hon Hai's stock price fell by more than 10%, but its stock price doubled over the whole year.
