Business Today ·  Oct 28 17:36

DHL Express made its largest investment in Malaysia to date by setting up a state-of-the-art facility, the Kuala Lumpur Gateway Complex, in Sepang, as part of its strategy to enhance intra-Asia connectivity and respond to the increasing demands of international trade.

Standing at 13,422 sq m, the RM300 million Kuala Lumpur Gateway is the first in Southeast Asia to feature a fully automated sorting system, which includes a 2km-long conveyor belt and high-speed scanning technology, allowing for the processing of inbound and outbound shipments at an accelerated rate of up to 10,000 pieces per hour.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the launch, emphasising the facility's importance in enhancing Malaysia's role in the global logistics sector.

DHL Express Asia Pacific Chief Executive Officer Ken Lee said the facility will empower businesses to better leverage export and import opportunities across key trade lanes, including the US, China and Germany.

"Malaysia's rising cargo volumes reflect its potential as a preferred omni-sourcing destination," he noted.

The facility, connected by two dedicated aircraft to DHL's Central and South Asia hubs, plays a critical role in facilitating the smooth movement of goods, particularly in the Klang Valley, which recently contributed RM3.3 billion in export value and RM7 billion in imports in August 2024.

With a focus on security, the Kuala Lumpur Gateway has achieved TAPA Class A certification, the highest airfreight security standard, as it boasts over 400 CCTV cameras, 24-hour surveillance and advanced X-ray screening systems, ensuring the safety of its operations.

Additionally, the facility aligns with DHL Group's commitment to sustainability, incorporating green technologies such as 500 kilowatt-peak solar panels and energy-efficient systems.

With the inauguration of the Kuala Lumpur Gateway, DHL Express continues to strengthen its presence in Malaysia, underscoring its role as a vital link in global supply chains.
