Fisco Japan ·  Sep 5 19:32

ADR (American Depositary Receipt) of Japanese stocks, converted to 1 dollar = 143.42 yen compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Disco <6146>, Advantest <6857>, SMC <6273>, Tokyo Electron <8035>, HOYA <7741>, Renesas <6723>, Chugai Pharmaceutical <4519>, etc. rose, with general buying prevailing. The settlement price of the Chicago Nikkei 225 futures was 37,010 yen, 400 yen higher than the Osaka daytime price.

The U.S. stock market was mixed. The Dow Jones fell 219.22 points to 40,755.75 dollars, while the Nasdaq ended trading at 17,127.66, up 43.36 points. After the opening, there was selling pressure due to unexpected weakness in the August ADP Employment Report, which raised concerns about the labor market and economic slowdown. However, the market stabilized after the August ISM Non-Manufacturing Index unexpectedly improved, reducing concerns about an economic slowdown. However, ahead of the release of the U.S. employment report on the 6th, profit-taking selling occurred, causing the Dow to continue falling and expanding its decline. The Nasdaq managed to end the session with a slight increase, supported by a rebound in semiconductor maker Nvidia (NVDA).

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 5th, the dollar-yen rate fell to 142.85 yen, then rose to 144.23 yen, and closed at 143.42 yen. The dollar selling accelerated as the growth of the August ADP Employment Report unexpectedly slowed, reaching its lowest level in three and a half years, and the long-term decline in interest rates, in anticipation of a significant rate cut by the Federal Reserve. However, the pessimistic view on the labor market eased as the number of initial jobless claims for the previous week decreased more than expected. Furthermore, the unexpected increase in the August ISM Non-Manufacturing Index led to a wider view that consumption and the economy remain resilient, and the decline in interest rates stabilized, leading to a stronger buyback of the dollar. The euro-dollar rate rose to 1.1120 dollars, then fell to 1.1075 dollars, and closed at 1.1111 dollars.

NYMEX crude oil futures for October eased off (NYMEX crude oil October futures closing price: 69.15, down 0.05).
