Meta has set up a team of professional AI consultants to protect the development of AI.

On May 23, according to media reports, Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook), announced the formation of a new product advisory committee called the “Meta Advisory Group.” The main mission of this group is to provide Meta with expert guidance on artificial intelligence and technological advancements.

According to reports, the committee consists of four well-known executives: Stripe's CEO and co-founder Patrick Collison, Shopify's CEO Tobi Lütke, former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, and former Microsoft executive and investor Charlie Songhurst. Notably, these members don't get paid anything from Meta. Among them, Collison and Lütke are new members of the committee.

In an internal notice, Zuckerberg said he has great respect for these leaders and thanked them for their support and insight at an important time when Meta is exploring fields such as artificial intelligence and the metaverse. Unlike the company's board of directors, the members of the “Meta Advisory Group” are not elected by shareholders and are not financially responsible for the company. The main task of this group is to provide advice on opportunities for technological advancement, innovation, and strategic growth.

Although Meta has not disclosed the exact frequency of meetings of the Product Advisory Committee, Zuckerberg emphasized that the group will regularly consult Meta's management team to help the company stay ahead of the technology front.

Globally, Meta faces competition from companies such as Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and emerging company Anthropic. Meta is accelerating the development of its AI products, including hardware and software products such as Quest virtual reality headsets, Ray-Ban smart glasses, and AI assistants provided through its apps.

Zuckerberg revealed during the earnings call last month that the company plans to increase capital expenditure this year to further promote the development of AI technology. He also said that Meta has demonstrated its ability to build industry-leading models and is expected to become the world's leading AI company, which will open up more new opportunities for the company. Zuckerberg also called on investors to be patient, pointing out that many AI projects may not generate immediate financial returns.
