Sony To Launch PlayStation Mobile Games Platform, Job Listing Reveals

Benzinga ·  May 22 14:39

Sony Group Corp. (NYSE:SONY) is joining Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) in the mobile gaming arena by developing its own PlayStation mobile platform.

Earlier this month, Xbox president Sarah Bond announced Microsoft's mobile games store would debut in July. Sony is also eyeing the $90 billion mobile gaming market and planning to release free-to-play mobile games.

Currently, Sony's presence in mobile gaming is limited, with Fate/Grand Order being its only significant title. However, this is set to change as Sony ramps up its investments in mobile gaming, including acquiring studios like Firesprite and Valkyrie.

A recent job listing (spotted by TweakTown) for a mobile platform architect hints at Sony's ambitions to build a comprehensive mobile game development platform.

The job listing seeks "an experienced software engineer to design PlayStation's platform for developing, publishing, and operating free-to-play mobile games."

The role involves creating the system architecture, managing backend services, and integrating with PlayStation's existing services.

The engineer will also focus on improving platform security, availability and efficiency while leading the engineering team and ensuring high-quality software delivery.
