Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has entered the French automotive market, further expanding its international presence under the V 2.0 strategy of its internationalization efforts.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker has launched the G9 and G6, both SUVs (sport utility vehicles), in France.
The G9, Xpeng's flagship SUV, is available in France in three variants -- Standard Range, Long Range with rear-wheel drive, and a Performance version with 4-wheel drive -- at a suggested retail prices of €59,990 ($64,960), €63,990, and €73,990, respectively.
The 4.9-meter-long vehicle has a battery capacity of 78.2 kWh or 98 kWh, and performance levels range from 230 kW (312 hp) for the rear-wheel drive variants to 405 kW (550 hp) for the all-wheel drive version.
The G9 Performance can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
The range of the rear-wheel drive G9 is 460 kilometers and 570 kilometers, respectively, while the four-wheel drive Performance version has a range of 520 kilometers.
The model is based on the 800 V high-voltage platform and supports a charging power of 300 kW, which allows it to be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 20 minutes.
Starting May 15, French customers will be able to order the G9 SUV from Xpeng dealers, according to the company.
The Xpeng G9 was initially launched in China on September 21, 2022. On September 19, 2023, Xpeng launched the 2024 G9 in China, which currently has a starting price of RMB 263,900 ($36,530).
The G6, an SUV that competes with Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, is also offered in France in three versions -- Standard Range, Long Range with rear-wheel drive, and a Performance version with 4-wheel drive.
The SUV offers two battery capacities -- 66 kWh and 87.5 kWh.
The G6 standard range version offers 255 hp and 440 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a WLTP range of 435 km.
Its longer-range version has 280 hp and 440 Nm of torque, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and has a WLTP range of 570 kilometers.
The Performance version offers 470 hp and 660 Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds with a WLTP range of 550 km.
The G6 can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 20 minutes, according to the company.
Xpeng launched the G6 in China on June 29, 2023, with deliveries beginning in early July.
The EV maker delivered 31,214 vehicles in January-April, up 23.33 percent year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The G9 delivered 6,171 vehicles in January-April, contributing 19.77 percent of Xpeng deliveries, while the G6 contributed 21.05 percent at 6,569 vehicles.
Xpeng has increased its focus on overseas markets this year, as competition in the domestic market grows red hot.
In an internal letter dated February 18 -- the first working day after China's 2024 Lunar New Year holiday -- He Xiaopeng, Xpeng's chairman and CEO, said 2024 will be the first year of V 2.0 for Xpeng's internationalization efforts.
So far this year, the EV maker has announced dealer partnerships in a number of regions including the UAE, Egypt, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia.
