Gelsinger confirmed that the upcoming 18A process Panther Lake (Panther Lake) CPU is progressing well and is expected to be launched in mid-2025

The Zhitong Finance App learned that during Intel's (INTC.US) latest earnings conference call, the company showcased its upcoming products and made it clear that it will fully promote the development of artificial intelligence on the next major CPU platform. CEO Pat Gelsinger confirmed that the upcoming 18A process Panther Lake (Panther Lake) CPU is progressing smoothly and is expected to be launched in mid-2025.

Gelsinger made some bold declarations, saying Panther Lake's artificial intelligence capabilities will double that of Arrow Lake chips launched later this year. If Intel can achieve this kind of advancements from generation to generation, it may witness some amazing artificial intelligence processing capabilities at that time.

After Meteor Lake (Meteor Lake) and Arrow Lake (Arrow Lake), Panther Lake (Panther Lake) represents the third iteration of the Intel Core Ultra series disassembled design. This modular approach divides the processing components into multiple tiled chips, unlike the hybrid architecture the company previously used in Alder Lake and Raptor Lake.

This shift to chipsets allows Intel to more broadly and boldly adopt components focused on artificial intelligence. Gelsinger pointed out that the company's “execution engine” schedule is being fully advanced, and five new process nodes have been put into production in just four years, which shows an extremely positive pace of development.

The Intel 20A paved the way for the 18A, which will begin mass production with Arrow Lake in the second half of this year. Gelsinger revealed that the Intel 18A 1.0 PDK is expected to be released this quarter. Furthermore, leading products, Clearwater Forest and Panther Lake, have entered the fab, and mass production of the Intel 18A in these products is expected to begin in the first half of 2025 and be released in the middle of next year.

In an earnings call for the fourth quarter of 2023, GelSinger revealed that Intel is working to increase the artificial intelligence performance of its x86 processors by up to six times in future product generations.

If Intel can complete these tasks as scheduled, then these rapid AI accelerator chip upgrades will help the company gain a key advantage in the intense AI competition with competitors such as NVDA.US (NVDA.US) and AMD (AMD.US).

Meanwhile, Intel is vigorously promoting the adoption of the Core Ultra series products launched in December. As supply constraints ease, the company expects CPU shipments to double this quarter. By the end of this year, Intel aims to deploy more than 40 million enhanced artificial intelligence PCs in its Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, and Lunar Lake product stacks.

In addition, Intel will also launch a new server chip, the Sierra Forest Xeon 6 series, which is based on the Intel 3 process and has 288 cores. 128-core Granite Rapids will follow suit for data center deployments.
