Next-Gen Update For Fallout 4 Owners Excludes PS Plus Collection, Bethesda Confirms

Microsoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Bethesda clarified Monday details about the free next-gen update for Fallout 4.

There was confusion among Sony Group Corp.'s (NYSE:SONY) PlayStation 5 owners.

The update was initially launched last week, prompting questions about eligibility, IGN reported.

"We've seen some confusion regarding the free Fallout 4 next-gen update for PlayStation Plus Extra members," Bethesda said in a statement. "The Fallout 4 next-gen update will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra members through the PlayStation Game Catalog. Your patience is appreciated while the teams work on this."

The update is free only for those with the game via the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog, leaving others to purchase the native PS5 version.

This includes users who obtained Fallout 4 through the now-defunct PS Plus Collection. Disappointed players, expecting the update for free, voiced their frustration, given Bethesda's earlier statement suggesting free access for all Fallout 4 owners.

Technical issues plagued the Fallout 4 next-gen update, with problems on the PC version and missing features on the Xbox version. Bethesda noted that the Xbox Series X version targets 4k resolution and 60 frames per second in all modes, with Performance Mode adjusting settings accordingly.

The release of the Fallout 4 next-gen update coincided with the success of Amazon.com Inc's (NASDAQ:AMZN) Prime Video's Fallout TV show. However, it disrupted the Fallout London mod, which relies on third-party mods now incompatible with the PC patch.
