Altair's acquisition will power next-generation enterprise data fabric and generative AI

SHANGHAI, April 26, 2024/PRNewswire/ -- Altair (NASDAQ: ALTR) recently announced the acquisition of Cambridge Semantics, a modern data structure provider and pioneer, dedicated to providing the industry with first-class graph analysis databases. Cambridge Semantics' graph-driven data structure technology accelerates the creation of a comprehensive enterprise knowledge map, integrating complex structured and unstructured enterprise data networks into a single, simplified view. Its flagship product, Anzo, is a complete knowledge mapping platform built on a high-performance graph database engine. It performs fast data queries based on the MPP framework to achieve enterprise-level and more agile data integration, transformation and analysis.

The organic combination of Cambridge Semantics' disruptive knowledge mapping technology with Altair's leading data analysis and data science tools provides a solid foundation for companies to build an advanced analytics ecosystem to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technology into everyday business operations. What sets it apart from other graph analysis database vendors is its focus on semantic data management and reasoning, which enables Anzo to handle more complex and structured data than traditional graph databases.

“Knowledge maps are a critical part of the data structure. This technology puts the right data in the right place at the right time. “We believe Cambridge Semantics will provide businesses with large amounts of data and deep problems with a fast and scalable knowledge map,” said James R. Scapa, founder and CEO of Altair. “Additionally, knowledge maps are critical to successfully implementing generative AI applications because this technology provides the business context required for generative AI models and removes falsehood while significantly improving the quality of response.”

Cambridge Semantics was founded by IBM Advanced Technology Group's innovative engineering team in 2007. Team members share the same philosophy: the semantic graph data model is a transformative technology designed to help companies use data in a different way than before to facilitate analysis, uncover new insights, and achieve strategic competitive differentiation. The technical team made significant contributions to the development of IBM Netezza and Amazon Redshift data warehouses, and is one of the world's largest knowledge map experts.

Cambridge Semantics technology to be integrated into Altair RapidMiner The platform adds technologies such as knowledge maps, data management, data virtualization, and data exploration on the basis of the platform's original data preparation, ETL, data science, business intelligence, MLOps, workload management and orchestration tools.

Charles Pieper, Chairman and CEO of Cambridge Semantics, said: “Joining Altair is a transformational opportunity for Cambridge Semantics to follow the trend as we work to accelerate the pace of technology adoption. Cambridge Semantics has a long history of successful partnerships with governments, Fortune 500 companies, life sciences, and manufacturing companies. Integrating Cambridge Semantics into Altair RapidMiner through the Altair Units business model is an exciting prospect for us and our customers.”

Altair's Chief Technology Officer Srikanth Mahalingam said, “This acquisition is certainly a great addition to our analytics and data science team. We will use this to gain significant data warehouse expertise and establish a core team of engineers who are highly skilled and familiar with the entire data lifecycle from data creation to actual application. All of us are looking forward to the new team and associated technology to keep us moving forward.”
