2024 is the Olympic year, and surfing competitions will be held on the same island of Tahiti. Tahiti's “Chopoo Wave” is said to be the world's most feared wave, and surfers are tested for their high mental strength and skill. SHISEIDO is implementing the “SHISEIDO BLUE PROJECT,” an activity to protect the ocean globally under the theme of “Respect for Oceans” through suncare. Through a partnership with the global surfing organization “WSL (World Surf League),” we will spend time with the ocean, carry out activities with surfers who value the ocean, convey the significance of this project to local communities and the next generation of children, and continue activities to protect the beautiful ocean.

Coral Reef Restoration and Conservation Activities and Support in Tahiti

SHISEIDO is implementing the “SHISEIDO BLUE PROJECT,” which carries out activities etc. to protect the ocean globally under the theme of “Respect for Oceans” through suncare. This project is the second year that Tahitian coral regeneration and conservation activities have been carried out. This year, as WSL's global sustainability partner, we will carry out coral restoration and protection activities with the cooperation of WSL's non-profit organizations “WSL PURE”, “WSL One Ocean”, and the marine conservation organization “Coral Regeneration” before the main event is held. We will follow up on the coral reefs that were protected last year, and we are planning workshops to improve their health. In order to convey the importance of protecting coral ecosystems to local communities and surfers, Kanoa Igarashi, an ambassador for this project, and local children will also participate.
We will also donate through the WSL PURE grant program to continue our marine conservation efforts. These funds will be used for coral restoration projects carried out by the marine conservation organization “Coral Restoration”. We will promote awareness and participation of local communities in marine conservation, and support the conservation and protection of the beautiful corals that symbolize Tahiti at the main conference venue.
