Lenovo's hybrid AI is progressing rapidly and announces a series of major results with AMD

Gelonghui Finance ·  Apr 25 03:31

On April 25, Lenovo Group announced the launch of a new set of AI-based infrastructure systems and solutions to advance hybrid artificial intelligence innovation from edge to cloud. Lenovo is providing rich GPU and thermal efficiency solutions for compute-intensive workloads across multiple environments and industries. In industries such as financial services and healthcare, customers are managing large data sets that require extremely high I/O bandwidth, and Lenovo is providing IT infrastructure solutions critical to managing critical data.

Kirk Skaugen, president of Lenovo Group ISG, said: “Lenovo is working to accelerate the acquisition of insights from data by providing new artificial intelligence solutions for use across industries to have a significant positive impact on customers' daily operations.” From improving financial services capabilities, retail experiences, to improving urban efficiency, our hybrid solutions enable enterprises to have AI-ready and AI-optimized infrastructure, take artificial intelligence from concept to reality, and enable enterprises to effectively deploy powerful, scalable, and appropriately scaled artificial intelligence solutions to drive innovation, digitalization, and productivity.”

One of the most powerful computing power devices, ThinkSystem SR685a V3 8GPU server

Lenovo and AMD have partnered to launch the ThinkSystem SR685a V3 8GPU server to provide customers with extreme performance for the most computationally demanding AI workloads, including GenAI and large language models (LLM). This powerful solution provides fast acceleration, large memory, and I/O bandwidth to process huge data sets needed to grow in the financial services, healthcare, energy, climate science, and transportation industries. The new ThinkSystem SR685a V3 is the best solution for enterprise private local AI and public AI cloud service providers.

In the financial services sector, the ThinkSystem SR685a V3 is designed to help with fraud detection and prevention as well as KYC (Know Your Customer) programs. The system is also ideal for applications that support algorithmic trading strategies, risk management (real-time transaction monitoring and value of risk), credit issuance (loan analysis and approval recommendations), wealth management and advisory services, and simplifying and enhancing regulatory compliance, and forecasting. Key features of the new system include:

● Accelerate intensive computing with leading 4th generation AMD EPYC processors and 8 new AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs

● Fully interconnected with AMD Infinity Fabric, providing 1.5TB high bandwidth (HBM3) memory capacity and up to 1Tb/s peak aggregation theoretical GPU I/O bandwidth performance, as well as the speed required to train and deploy AI models

● Through air cooling, the maximum performance of high-power CPUs and GPUs can be maintained

● Extreme flexibility, including direct support for NVIDIA's latest HGX (H100/H200/B100) GPUs and next-generation AMD CPUs.

Forrest Norrod, executive vice president and general manager of AMD Data Center Solutions Group, said: “Together with Lenovo, we are accelerating the artificial intelligence transformation of enterprises in many ways to help guide customers through this major transformation in computing while providing powerful end-to-end large-scale solutions.” Together, we have a proven track record of bringing amazing solutions to the market, and we're excited to add the AMD Instinct MI300X to Lenovo's product portfolio to help businesses rapidly adopt artificial intelligence.”

One of the most powerful Azure Stack HCI solutions on the market

Additionally, Lenovo introduced the new ThinkAgile MX455 V3 Edge Premier solution powered by the AMD EPYC 8004 processor, bringing artificial intelligence inference and real-time data analysis to the edge with the best power efficiency of any Azure Stack HCI solution. The solution provides seamless integration with on-premise deployments and the Azure cloud, enabling customers to lower TCO, get an enhanced customer experience, and adopt software innovations more quickly through unique lifecycle management. It's ideal for the retail, manufacturing, and healthcare industries, and its key features include:

● Reduce administrative overhead through automation, near-zero touch configuration, and unique Lenovo Open Cloud Automation (LOC-A) capabilities to deploy and manage faster from anywhere in the cloud using an Azure Arc-enabled architecture

● Reduce maintenance time and costs through single point of contact support and centralized, cloud-based cluster management

● Improve security, reliability, and reduce downtime through continuous testing and automated software updates validated by Microsoft and Lenovo

“We hear from customers every day that they need the power of Microsoft Azure to extend into their diverse real-world environments — from manufacturing and retail spaces to fast food restaurants and other distributed locations. Our partnership with Lenovo has enabled us to provide enough Azure for these critical edge sites while simplifying deployment and lifecycle management,” said Douglas Phillips, vice president of Azure Edge+ Platforms. The ThinkAgile MX455 V3 Edge Premier solution provides our shared customers with a seamless experience from cloud to edge, no matter where their data is located. This new solution and the power of our adaptive cloud approach enable businesses to unify teams, streamline operations, and harness the power of cloud-native and artificial intelligence technology so they can focus on transforming their business rather than managing infrastructure.”

Addressing compute-intensive workloads

Lenovo and AMD have launched a multi-node, high-performance, thermally efficient server designed to maximize the performance of each rack for intensive transaction processing. The Lenovo ThinkSystem SD535 V3 is a 1S/1U half-width server node, driven by a single 4th generation AMD EPYC processor, designed to maximize processing power and thermal efficiency to meet the workloads of enterprises of all sizes, including cloud computing and large-scale virtualization, big data analysis, high performance computing, and real-time e-commerce transactions. Key features include:

● Allows customers full flexibility to optimize AMD or Intel-based workloads in the same 2U chassis

● Allows configurations of 2, 3, or 4 nodes to be installed in a single chassis

● Simplify large-scale automation, orchestration, and deployment with Lenovo xClarity system management software

● Compared to standard 1U rack servers, unified power and cooling implementation can reduce power consumption by 30%.

Streamline the AI experience through professional services

In order to empower enterprises and accelerate the success of artificial intelligence applications, Lenovo has launched Lenovo AI consulting and professional services, providing a wide range of services, solutions and platforms. The aim is to help enterprises of all sizes use artificial intelligence and find suitable solutions, so that artificial intelligence can quickly and cost-effectively serve organizations on a large scale, and transform artificial intelligence from concept to reality. The practice can be divided into five steps:

● AI Discover: Helping customers visualize and plan their AI adoption strategies and resources. Using proven methods, Lenovo experts assess an organization's artificial intelligence readiness in terms of safety, people, technology, and processes, and make recommendations to put customers on the path to AI success.

● AI consulting: Lenovo experts recommend the most effective security posture, change management plan, technology architecture, and artificial intelligence adoption plan based on customer strategies and goals. Lenovo helps define the expected outcomes of artificial intelligence at any scale, from the pocket to the cloud, and jointly develop a roadmap to achieve this goal.

● Artificial intelligence quick launch: Lenovo experts design and build key artificial intelligence elements to show how to achieve these key customer outcomes, whether business, operational, or technical results. This may appear in Lenovo or customer labs in the form of a proof of concept or MVP (minimum viable product).
