Halliburton Outperforms Forecasts with Strong Q1 Earnings and Optimistic 2024 Outlook: A Buy Recommendation

Analyst Roger Read from Wells Fargo maintained a Buy rating on Halliburton (HALResearch Report) and keeping the price target at $50.00.

Roger Read has given his Buy rating due to a combination of factors that indicate Halliburton’s strong financial performance and promising outlook. The first quarter results for 2024 surpassed expectations, with both earnings per share (EPS) and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) outperforming estimates. This was complemented by a solid revenue increase that also exceeded forecasted figures. The company’s operational segments, Completion & Production (C&P) and Drilling & Evaluation (D&E), reported results that were not only ahead of expectations but also showed resilience with higher-than-anticipated margins despite quarter-over-quarter declines.

Halliburton’s management reassured investors of its confidence in the company’s prospects for 2024, with international growth expected to balance out any reduction in North American market activity year-over-year. The company’s strategy of returning value to shareholders through significant cash returns was evident in its consistent stock buyback program and increased dividend payments. Moreover, Halliburton is investing in a transition to a new enterprise resource planning system, which is expected to improve operational efficiency and yield financial benefits in the long term. These factors collectively underpin Read’s optimistic view on Halliburton’s stock, hence his recommendation to Buy.

In another report released today, Jefferies also maintained a Buy rating on the stock with a $49.00 price target.

Based on the recent corporate insider activity of 73 insiders, corporate insider sentiment is negative on the stock. This means that over the past quarter there has been an increase of insiders selling their shares of HAL in relation to earlier this year.
