The number of inbound visitors to Macau increased 79% year-on-year in the first quarter to 8.875,800

On April 22, the Macao Statistics and Census Service announced that the total number of inbound visitors in the first quarter of this year was 8.875,800, up 79.4% year on year, and recovered to 85.7% in the same period in 2019.

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on April 22, the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau announced that the total number of inbound visitors in the first quarter of this year was 8.875,800, up 79.4% from the previous year, and recovered to 85.7% in the same period in 2019. Among them, the number of visitors from mainland China increased by 94.3% year-on-year to 6.291,900. The number of visitors to Hong Kong rose 21% to 1,817,900. In March alone, there were 2,726 million inbound visitors to Macau, up 39% year on year, recovering to 80.3% in the same period in 2019; compared with February, it decreased by 17.4%.

According to data, the total number of inbound visitors in the first quarter of this year was 8.88,800, up 79.4% year on year, recovering to 85.7% in the same period in 2019; however, night visitors (4.7917 million) and overnight visitors (4.084 million) increased 1.1 times and 54.8% respectively. The average stay of visitors was 1.2 days, down 0.1 days from the same period last year; the average length of stay for overnight visitors (2.2 days) was reduced by 0.1 days, while the average length of stay for overnight visitors (0.3 days) remained the same.

According to customer source analysis, the number of visitors from mainland China increased by 94.3% year-on-year in the first quarter to 629,1912, of which individual visitors (3.47 million) increased by 68.3%. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area increased by 74.9% to 3.0152 million, while visitors from Hong Kong (1,817,900) and Taiwan (181,900) increased 21.0% and 1.7 times, respectively. Hong Kong visitors in the first quarter increased by 1.4% compared to the same period in 2019, while visitors from mainland China and Taiwan recovered to 84.5% and 69.5% respectively in the same period in 2019.

The first quarter recorded 584 million international visitors, recovering to 68.2% in the same period in 2019. In the Southeast Asian market, visitors from the Philippines (114,600 visitors) increased by 23.7% from the first quarter of 2019, visitors from Malaysia (39,800) recovered to 70.8% compared to the same period in 2019, and visitors from Indonesia (39,300) and Thailand (38,600) all recovered to 89.2%. Visitors from South Korea (129,500) and Japan (361,000) in Northeast Asia recovered to 49.4% and 40.6%, respectively, in the same period in 2019, while visitors from the US (33,400) recovered to 66.5% of long-distance visitors.

According to entry channel statistics, the total number of visitors entering by land in the first quarter was 7.021 million, an increase of 75.9% over the previous year. Among them, visitors entering via Border Gate Port (3.3371 million), Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (2,221 million) and Hengqin Port (1.043 million) accounted for 47.5%, 31.6% and 14.8%, respectively; visitors entering by sea (1,1181,000) and air (736,700) increased by 81.2% and 1.2 times, respectively.

The number of inbound visitors in March 2024 increased by 39.0% year on year to 2,706 million, recovering to 80.3% in the same period in 2019; compared with February, it decreased by 17.4%. However, overnight visitors (1.444 million) and overnight visitors (1.276,600) increased by 47.7% and 30.4%, respectively. The average length of stay for travelers remained at 1.2 days; the average length of stay for overnight visitors (2.3 days) increased by 0.1 days over the same period last year, while overnight visitors (0.2 days) decreased by 0.1 days.
