Here's Why We Think PDD Holdings (NASDAQ:PDD) Might Deserve Your Attention Today

It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.

Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like PDD Holdings (NASDAQ:PDD). While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

How Fast Is PDD Holdings Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

PDD Holdings has undergone a massive growth in earnings per share over the last three years. So much so that this three year growth rate wouldn't be a fair assessment of the company's future. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. Impressively, PDD Holdings' EPS catapulted from CN¥24.94 to CN¥45.18, over the last year. Year on year growth of 81% is certainly a sight to behold. Shareholders will be hopeful that this is a sign of the company reaching an inflection point.

Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. While we note PDD Holdings achieved similar EBIT margins to last year, revenue grew by a solid 90% to CN¥248b. That's a real positive.

Are PDD Holdings Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Owing to the size of PDD Holdings, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a significant proportion of the company. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. Indeed, they have a considerable amount of wealth invested in it, currently valued at CN¥51b. That equates to 34% of the company, making insiders powerful and aligned with other shareholders. Very encouraging.

Is PDD Holdings Worth Keeping An Eye On?

PDD Holdings' earnings have taken off in quite an impressive fashion. That EPS growth certainly is attention grabbing, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke our interest. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. Based on the sum of its parts, we definitely think its worth watching PDD Holdings very closely. You should always think about risks though.
