An Insider At Golden Entertainment Lowered Their Holding Recently

Simply Wall St ·  Apr 19 08:43

Viewing insider transactions for Golden Entertainment, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GDEN ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net sellers. This means that a larger number of shares were sold by insiders in relation to shares purchased.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Golden Entertainment

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the President, Charles Protell, for US$1.1m worth of shares, at about US$41.42 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$33.43). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Charles Protell was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Does Golden Entertainment Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 6.1% of Golden Entertainment shares, worth about US$59m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Golden Entertainment Insiders?

The fact that there have been no Golden Entertainment insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Golden Entertainment insiders. But we do like the fact that insiders own a fair chunk of the company.
