According to a notice filed by Tesla pursuant to the US and Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice Act (WARN), the company will cut 285 employees in New York State as part of its broader global restructuring.
According to the documents, most of the affected employees work at Tesla's solar panel factory in Buffalo, New York, and a few work at a store and service center in the area.
Earlier this week, Tesla CEO Musk sent a memorandum to the entire company stating that it plans to lay off more than 10% of employees globally. Other than the leaked memo, Tesla revealed few details of this layoff. The memorandum said the layoffs would help “prepare the company for the next phase of growth.”
