$United Airlines (UAL.US)$ rose some 5% after the bell Tuesday after the carrier reported a Q1 adjusted loss per share of $0.15 vs. the $0.57 loss per share that analysts had expected.

UAL gained 5.1% to trade at $43.62 shortly before 5 p.m. ET even as the firm said its earnings reflected an approximately $200 million impact from the recent grounding of 737 Max 9 airplanes from $Boeing (BA.US)$ on safety concerns.

United Airlines said operating revenue came in a $12.54 billion, up 9.7% year over year and above analysts' consensus estimate of $12.44 billion.
