April 16, 2024 - $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ shares dropped 4.68% to $153.92 in intraday trading on Tuesday. Earlier this week, an internal memo showed Tesla is laying off 10% of staff globally, in face of falling sales and an intensifying price war for EVs.

Elon Musk confirmed large-scale job cuts on Tuesday, as well as the departure of two senior leaders, battery development chief Drew Baglino and vice president for public policy Rohan Patel.

The latest disclosures from Tesla add to the pressures the company faces heading into its earnings report next Tuesday. Tesla has already posted deeply disappointing delivery numbers for the first quarter, and it will need to reassure investors of its footing - at a time when its shares are among the S&P 500's SPX biggest decliners on the year.
