Celebrating National Volunteer Week

GFL Environmental ·  Apr 12 00:00

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we want to acknowledge and thank our GFL employees who give back to their communities through the Full Circle Project (FCP). Volunteering is an integral part of our partnerships with local charities that helps extend our support beyond a monetary donation.

Featuring a project for each of FCP's seven charity classes, these GFL employees share what it means to be part of the Full Circle Project:

Nature Conservation
Makeway Charitable Society/ Howe Sound Marine Stewardship Initiative

"At a time when environmental stewardship is more important than ever this project is shepherding and celebrating the renewal of life in Howe Sound for the first time in my lifetime. Having GFL staff champion and participate in this project, learn about life cycles and stewardship by spending time slowly observing and appreciating the estuary is gratifying. It's remarkable to witness my team's excitement and environmental leadership here."
- General Manager Denise Imbeau, Squamish, British Columbia

Poverty Reduction
Food on Foot Tennessee

"The Tennessee Food on Foot Foundation is an organization we proudly support annually. This charity gives back to our local community, focusing on the needs of children. Thanks to the Full Circle Project, the Morristown team has helped to successfully provide hundreds of children and their families with food, school supplies, shoes, and other critical needs. We have a wonderful team that is always willing to step up and help those in need."
- Office Administrator Sarah Walker, Morristown, Tennessee

Arts, Culture, and Education
Power Book Bags

"The Full Circle Project helps our employees feel vested in the company and its connection to their community. It is also an opportunity to develop leadership potential, especially when participating in activities that require organizational and effective management skills. Power Book Bags assembles book bags full of engaging literacy materials for underserved children in Michigan, and our team has volunteered to distribute these bags to different locations. Volunteering fosters a feeling of goodwill and the ability to feel like you can make a difference in the lives of your community members."
-Office Administrator Colette Pierce, Kalkaska, Michigan

First Responders and Veterans
Greater Peoria Honor Flight

"Full Circle Project is a valuable resource that enables us to give back locally to our community and fund charities like Greater Peoria Honor Flight. The volunteer opportunity meant a lot to our team because we were able to honor the Veterans who sacrificed their lives to protect us. The experience was as humbling as it was rewarding. We have many Veterans on our local teams, so it was extra special to give back. We greeted and thanked Veterans for their service as they embarked on their Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. We decorated the plane's interior with red, white, and blue décor. We are grateful to the Full Circle Project for helping us to support Greater Peoria Honor Flight."
- Marketing Coordinator Caitlin Alwan, Peoria, Illinois

Family Wellness
Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre

"Getting involved with the Full Circle Project has been an excellent way to partner with a local charity we care deeply about. The funding has made a big difference for the Dartmouth Seniors Centre, allowing them to purchase food for their "Meal on Wheels" program and equipment to help prepare the food. It's a good feeling for my team to be able to help others who need it most, not only through donations but, most importantly, through volunteering their time. "
- General Manager Ken Webb, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Animal Wellness
Procycon Wildlife

"Procyon is a charity whose volunteers work tirelessly to save hundreds of animals every year; I am proud to be one of these volunteers. Receiving funding from FCP allowed GFL members to attend Procyon's first ever gala to raise money for the animals. It also allowed Procyon to partner with GFL during Pollinator Week and educate employees on the importance of bats as pollinators. I am immensely grateful that GFL helped support an important charity to the community."
- Corporate Recruiter Sabrina Moonilall, Vaughan, Ontario

Cancer and Medical Wellness
Camp Fish Tales

"Camp Fish Tales promotes an inclusive atmosphere for individuals with disabilities. The Camp Fish Tales project was an eye-opening experience to be a part of and we had a great time volunteering at the charity's annual Fish Races. It was gratifying to be part of this day and champion the campers. It was very rewarding to see FCP funds go towards camp scholarships so children could attend the camp no matter their financial background."
- Dispatcher Sarah Burton, Sagninaw, Michigan

Thank you to our wonderful GFL employees who have given back to their communities through the Full Circle Project!
