This Vera Therapeutics Insider Reduced Their Stake By 45%

Simply Wall St ·  Apr 8 08:59

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Vera Therapeutics, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:VERA ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Vera Therapeutics Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Sean Grant was the biggest sale of Vera Therapeutics shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$37.52. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Insiders At Vera Therapeutics Have Sold Stock Recently

The last three months saw significant insider selling at Vera Therapeutics. Specifically, Chief Financial Officer Sean Grant ditched US$735k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. Overall this makes us a bit cautious, but it's not the be all and end all.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Vera Therapeutics insiders own 0.6% of the company, worth about US$13m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Vera Therapeutics Insiders?

An insider hasn't bought Vera Therapeutics stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. Insiders own shares, but we're still pretty cautious, given the history of sales. We're in no rush to buy! So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
