NXP Semiconductors (NXPI.US) said on Thursday that it will launch a new platform, the S32 CoreRide.
The Zhitong Finance App learned that NXP Semiconductors (NXPI.US), the largest automotive computer chip maker, said on Thursday that the company has launched a new platform that will simplify and speed up software development for customers.
With a market value of $63 billion, NXP is headquartered in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and listed on the NASDAQ. The new platform, called S32 CoreRide, integrates partner companies' software and NXP's new product line of advanced chips to help standardize software development for a growing number of electronic systems in automobiles.
NXP's customers include major car manufacturers and their tier 1 or 2 suppliers. It is reported that the new platform will be used for power management, data processing, and networking throughout the vehicle, but will not be used for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) or home screen displays.
Henri Ardevol (Henri Ardevol), general manager of NXP's automotive business, said of customers, “Our role is largely behind the scenes, and the honor belongs to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).”
The platform has a wide range of software partners, including “drivers and changers in the automotive industry... between operating systems and actual applications... associated with intermediate software stacks”, he said. Examples include Accenture (ACN.US), Chengmai Technology (300598.SZ), Blackberry (BB.US), Elektrobit, ETAS, GreenHills Software, Sonatus, Synopsys (SNPS.US), TTTech Auto, Vector Informatik GmbH, and Wind River.
He said that the standard for measuring the success of the platform will be whether the software development time and adoption rate have been shortened.
