药石科技蝉联2024 ACS CMO绿色化学卓越奖

Yakshi Technology won the 2024 ACS CMO Green Chemistry Excellence Award

PR Newswire ·  Mar 26 08:00

Nanjing, March 26, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Nanjing Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd. (Company abbreviation: “Pharmaceutical Stone Technology”, stock code: 300725.SZSE), as a global integrated CRDMO company focusing on innovative chemistry and low-carbon manufacturing, recently won the American Chemical Society (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute Pharmaceutical Roundtable (Green Chemistry Institute Pharmaceutical) (Roundtable, GCI PR) 2024 CMO Green Chemistry Excellence Award. Being able to win this honor as the only winner for 2 consecutive years in a competition with the world's outstanding CDMO companies is a recognition and encouragement for the company to adhere to the concept of sustainable development for a long time and actively develop green chemistry and low-carbon technological innovation.

Award-winning projects

The highlight of Yakshi Technology's award-winning project is that it pioneered large-scale production of continuous air oxidation and continuous hydro-reduction amination through micro-filled bed technology, and successfully applied to the continuous production of 1-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-azetidinone and its derivative 1-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-aminocyclobutylamine. These compounds are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, and can be used as intermediates for the synthesis of many pharmaceutical ingredients on the market.

The project made full use of the advantages of micro-filled bed technology, selected more environmentally friendly reagents and solvents, and had a high degree of atomic economy. The design of the project also incorporates multiple safety considerations, such as acetonitrile vapor and hydrogen concentration monitoring, and automatic locking. At present, the new process has successfully achieved a tonnage scale continuous oxidation step and a 200 kg scale continuous reduction amination step. Compared with traditional processes, the new process has achieved significant optimization in various dimensions such as equipment volumetric efficiency, PMI (process mass intensity, used to quantify the ratio of raw material input to effective product output), safety and environmental protection, and cost efficiency.

Innovative application of micro-filled bed technology in green chemistry and continuous production

In recent years, Yakshi Technology has actively participated in the development of green chemistry and low-carbon manufacturing, and has established a cutting-edge technology platform centered on continuous flow chemistry, micro-filled bed technology, biocatalysis, metal catalysis, and intelligent manufacturing. While providing customers with more efficient, high-quality, and low-cost services, it promotes innovation in green processes, reduces carbon emissions in the production process, and promotes the sustainable development of enterprises and pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing industries.

In the 2023 ACS CMO Green Chemistry Excellence Award winning project, Yakshi Technology completed continuous production of 3-oxycyclobutane-1-carboxylic acid through a novel continuous process consisting of decarboxylation reaction, decolorization, extraction and separation. It can successfully produce two tons of products within ten days, greatly improving production efficiency, effectively reducing energy consumption and PMI, and reducing human operation.

In the 2024 award-winning project, the team focused on the special application of continuous flow chemistry in hydrogenation and oxidation reactions through micro-filled bed equipment. Hydrogenation and oxidation reactions play an important role in the pharmaceutical industry, yet they also face challenges such as precise control of reaction conditions, catalyst selection, and precious metal recycling. These not only affect product quality and production efficiency, but may also pose potential safety and environmental hazards. Micro-filled bed technology enables optimal mixing of gas and liquid throughout the continuous reactor, thereby ensuring efficient mass transfer and promoting the dissolution of nearly saturated gases. By combining a highly active fixed-load catalyst, the reduction reaction is quickly converted, reaction time is significantly shortened, and production efficiency is improved. Furthermore, the miniaturized high-pressure reaction system used in this technology not only optimizes the mass transfer process, but also enhances the intrinsic safety of the overall reaction. It is worth mentioning that micro-filled bed technology reduces complex filtration steps for powder catalysts in traditional hydrogenation reactions, reduces the risk of manual operation, and further improves overall production efficiency.

Since successfully implementing large-scale production for the first time five years ago, Yakshi Technology has applied micro-filled bed technology to hundreds of hydrogenation and other gas, liquid, and solid three-phase reaction projects to provide partners with more efficient and safe development and production solutions and reduce costs.

Dr. Yang Minmin, Chairman and General Manager of Yakshi Technology, said, “Our team is honored to receive the ACS CMO Green Chemistry Excellence Award for two consecutive years. Pharmaceutical Stone Technology has always been committed to helping partners achieve multiple benefits of efficiency, quality, and cost through chemical and low-carbon technology innovation in R&D and production processes. We firmly believe that this core strategic advantage will not only promote business cooperation, but also promote the sustainable development of the industry and society. Yakushi Technology will continue to explore and make breakthroughs.”
