Simply Wall St ·  Mar 23 09:10

Quite a few insiders have dramatically grown their holdings in MillerKnoll, Inc. (NASDAQ:MLKN) over the past 12 months. An insider's optimism about the company's prospects is a positive sign.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

MillerKnoll Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Non-Executive Chairman Michael Volkema for US$1.0m worth of shares, at about US$16.61 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$29.58), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$1.5m for 91.34k shares. But they sold 9.77k shares for US$276k. Overall, MillerKnoll insiders were net buyers during the last year. Does MillerKnoll Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. MillerKnoll insiders own about US$23m worth of shares. That equates to 1.1% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
