Bullish: Analysts Just Made An Incredible Upgrade To Their Smart Sand, Inc. (NASDAQ:SND) Forecasts

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 17 08:15

Shareholders in Smart Sand, Inc. (NASDAQ:SND) may be thrilled to learn that the analysts have just delivered a major upgrade to their near-term forecasts. The consensus statutory numbers for both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) increased, with their view clearly much more bullish on the company's business prospects.

After the upgrade, the consensus from Smart Sand's two analysts is for revenues of US$283m in 2024, which would reflect a measurable 4.3% decline in sales compared to the last year of performance. Statutory earnings per share are expected to be US$0.11, roughly flat on the last 12 months. Prior to this update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of US$252m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.07 in 2024. There has definitely been an improvement in perception recently, with the analysts substantially increasing both their earnings and revenue estimates.

Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 4.3% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2024. That is a notable change from historical growth of 6.7% over the last five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 7.7% annually for the foreseeable future. It's pretty clear that Smart Sand's revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest takeaway for us from these new estimates is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates, with improved earnings power expected for this year. Fortunately, they also upgraded their revenue estimates, and are forecasting revenues to grow slower than the wider market. The clear improvement in sentiment should be enough to get most shareholders feeling more optimistic about Smart Sand's future.

Still, the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At least one analyst has provided forecasts out to 2025, which can be seen for free on our platform here.
