Trade Alert: Senior VP of Accounting & Chief Accounting Officer Of Antero Resources Sheri Pearce Has Sold Stock

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 17 08:07

We wouldn't blame Antero Resources Corporation (NYSE:AR) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Sheri Pearce, the Senior VP of Accounting & Chief Accounting Officer recently netted about US$736k selling shares at an average price of US$26.29. That diminished their holding by a very significant 100%, which arguably implies a strong desire to reallocate capital.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Antero Resources

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Senior VP of Finance & CFO, Michael Kennedy, sold US$3.2m worth of shares at a price of US$21.07 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$25.81). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was only 17% of Michael Kennedy's holding.

Does Antero Resources Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Antero Resources insiders own about US$398m worth of shares (which is 5.1% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
