SonoScape Medical (SZSE:300633) Shareholders Have Earned a 19% CAGR Over the Last Three Years

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 11 21:41

SonoScape Medical Corp. (SZSE:300633) shareholders might be concerned after seeing the share price drop 17% in the last quarter. But that shouldn't obscure the pleasing returns achieved by shareholders over the last three years. After all, the share price is up a market-beating 67% in that time.

So let's investigate and see if the longer term performance of the company has been in line with the underlying business' progress.

To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.

SonoScape Medical was able to grow its EPS at 86% per year over three years, sending the share price higher. The average annual share price increase of 19% is actually lower than the EPS growth. So one could reasonably conclude that the market has cooled on the stock.

A Different Perspective

We regret to report that SonoScape Medical shareholders are down 18% for the year (even including dividends). Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 13%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 6% per year over half a decade. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering.
