This Insider Has Just Sold Shares In Cogent Communications Holdings

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 10 08:25

We wouldn't blame Cogent Communications Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCOI) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that David Schaeffer, the Founder recently netted about US$640k selling shares at an average price of US$72.55. However, that sale only accounted for 0.2% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Cogent Communications Holdings

In fact, the recent sale by Founder David Schaeffer was not their only sale of Cogent Communications Holdings shares this year. Earlier in the year, they fetched US$62.44 per share in a -US$4.7m sale. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$67.83, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 1.5% of David Schaeffer's stake.
