Elden Ring Sales Still Booming: 23 Million Copies In Two Years

Benzinga ·  Feb 22 16:16

Bandai Namco Hldgs ADR (OTC:NCBDY) disclosed that its Elden Ring reached a milestone of 23 million sales just days before its second anniversary.

This figure marked an increase from the previously reported 20 million sales a year after its launch and included physical copies and downloads.

Co-developed with FromSoftware, Elden Ring's success was underscored by surpassing FromSoftware's previous titles, including the acclaimed Dark Souls series, Demon's Souls, Sekiro and Bloodborne.

The announcement coincided with the revelation of the forthcoming Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC (downloadable content), slated for release in June.

Elden Ring's success is highlighted by comparisons to other best-selling games, such as Warner Bros. Discovery Inc's (NASDAQ:WBD) Hogwarts Legacy, which sold 24 million copies in 2023 and generated more than $1 billion in sales.

Regarding future plans for the Elden Ring franchise, Hidetaka Miyazaki, chief developer at FromSoftware, hinted at the possibility of Elden Ring 2 or additional DLC. However, no official announcements have been made.

"We don't want to say this is the end of the Elden Ring saga for now," the developer said in an interview with IGN. "I think we said a similar thing at the end of Dark Souls 3. We didn't want to flatten those possibilities or put a pin in them just at that time. And it's a similar story with Elden Ring. We don't want to discourage the possibilities for that. There might be more ideas in the future."

He added: "We don't have any current plans to make a second DLC or a sequel, but we definitely don't want to snuff out that possibility. We think that there could well be something the future."
