V.F. Corporation (NYSE:VFC) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the President, Bracken Darrell, recently bought a whopping US$1.0m worth of stock, at a price of US$15.38. That purchase boosted their holding by 83%, which makes us wonder if the move was inspired by quietly confident deeply-felt optimism.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At V.F

In fact, the recent purchase by Bracken Darrell was the biggest purchase of V.F shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$17.05. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. Happily, the V.F insiders decided to buy shares at close to current prices.

While V.F insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Does V.F Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that V.F insiders own 0.9% of the company, worth about US$63m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About V.F Insiders?

It is good to see recent purchasing. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. However, we note that the company didn't make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of V.F we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future. In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing V.F. While conducting our analysis, we found that V.F has 2 warning signs and it would be unwise to ignore them.
