Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Utilities, Oil & Gas and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.33% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.09%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 2.59% or 2.71 points to trade at 107.21 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 2.25% or 8.63 points to end at 392.89 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.89% or 1.76 points to 94.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 1.29% or 3.76 points to trade at 287.54 in late trade. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 1.26% or 5.29 points to end at 415.26 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) shed 0.90% or 1.70 points to 187.15.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which rose 13.92% to 17.43, Diamondback Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FANG) which was up 9.38% to settle at 165.98 and Mohawk Industries Inc (NYSE:MHK) which gained 6.61% to close at 117.28.
The worst performers were Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI) which was down 3.20% to 320.30 in late trade, ServiceNow Inc (NYSE:NOW) which lost 3.19% to settle at 786.98 and Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which was down 2.98% to 729.87 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Beamr Imaging Ltd (NASDAQ:BMR) which rose 371.56% to 9.95, Renalytix AI (NASDAQ:RNLX) which was up 228.00% to settle at 1.25 and Millennium Group International Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:MGIH) which gained 201.94% to close at 3.11.
The worst performers were AN2 Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ANTX) which was down 74.50% to 5.10 in late trade, Medavail Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MDVL) which lost 43.22% to settle at 1.80 and TOP Financial Group Ltd (NASDAQ:TOP) which was down 40.63% to 3.20 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2213 to 652 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2230 rose and 1223 declined, while 94 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.73% to 13.93.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.24% or 4.80 to $2,033.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.14% or 0.11 to hit $76.95 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.21% or 0.17 to trade at $82.02 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 149.33.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 104.01.
