Possible Bearish Signals With Palomar Holdings Insiders Disposing Stock

Simply Wall St ·  Feb 3 09:02

Over the past year, many Palomar Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLMR) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Palomar Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Founder, D. Armstrong, for US$4.6m worth of shares, at about US$58.65 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$58.59. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

In the last year Palomar Holdings insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that Palomar Holdings insiders own 3.0% of the company, worth about US$44m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
