On January 26, TechInsights released a report stating that in Q4 2023, global laptop shipments increased 5% year-on-year to reach 51.9 million units. This is the first time the market has grown since the third quarter of 2021.

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on January 26, TechInsights released a report indicating that in Q4 2023, global laptop shipments increased 5% year-on-year to reach 51.9 million units. This is the first time the market has grown since the third quarter of 2021.

Despite the continued decline in macroeconomic conditions in the Asia-Pacific region, a number of factors contributed to the overall increase in shipments during the holiday season. Inventory adjustments in the first nine months of 2023 supported stronger sales in the fourth quarter. In regions where macroeconomic conditions have stabilized or improved, demand has recovered, and businesses and consumers are cautiously increasing spending on personal computers. With the exception of Dell's shipments, which remained flat year over year, and Asus shipments fell 4% year over year, most manufacturers achieved positive year-on-year growth in shipments.

Looking at the full year of 2023, global laptop shipments fell 12% compared to 2022, totaling 194 million units. While the double-digit decline was significant, it is worth noting that global laptop shipments declined even more (-18%) between 2021 and 2022. Furthermore, these shipments still exceed pre-pandemic shipments in 2019.

The laptop market is expected to grow in 2024 as the installation base of PCs purchased during the pandemic ages and the accelerated migration to Windows 11, making commercial users and individual consumers all need to buy new PCs. In 2024, the advent of artificial intelligence-enabled personal computers will undoubtedly drive the development of the computer industry; however, we should expect the first wave of these computers to target commercial use cases rather than the wider market.
