SINGAPORE (Jan 26): Porsche AG has unveiled its first all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the form of the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, marking the German carmaker's second all-electric range.

The sleek all-new Porsche Macan range, which made its world premiere here on Thursday evening amid the lush landscape of the iconic Gardens by the Bay, was rolled out a decade after Porsche introduced the first Macan, of which over 800,000 units have been sold worldwide since 2014.

The cars have classic Porsche proportions that have been further developed and optimally adapted to the challenges of an electric vehicle, making them look more dynamic and dominant. The aim is to offer the sportiest model in its segment with the all-electric range, according to the group's vice-president of the Macan product line, Jörg Kerner.

"We are taking the Macan to a completely new level — with exceptional e-performance, the new driver experience, and a very impressive design," said Oliver Blume, the chairman of Porsche's executive board.

Blume's reference to the exceptional e-performance of the cars is based on the numbers that indicate the new Macans' prowess.

The Macan 4 produces up to 300kW of overboost power, with a maximum torque of 650Nm, while the Macan Turbo boasts up to 470kW, and a max torque of 1,130Nm, both of which guarantee excellent driving performance. The Macan 4 can accelerate from standstill to 100 kph in 5.2 seconds, according to Porsche, while the Macan Turbo can do so in just 3.3 seconds. The Macan 4's top speed is 220 kph, while the Turbo is 260 kph.

Their electric motors draw energy from a lithium-ion battery in the underbody, with a gross capacity of 100kWh, of which up to 95kWh can be actively used. "The HV (high-voltage) battery is a central component of the newly developed premium platform electric with 880-volt architecture, which is used by Porsche for the first time in the new Macan," a statement from Porsche read.

The Macan Turbo boasts up to 470kW, and a max torque of 1,130Nm.

The battery's direct-current charging output is up to 270kW. And it only takes about 21 minutes at a suitable fast-charging station to charge the battery from 10% to 80%.

According to Porsche, the new Macan is a performance-oriented SUV, with a high level of practicality for everyday use, with high-quality equipment and spacious configuration.

"Electrification has led to increased luggage space in the Macan. Depending on the model and equipment fitted, the capacity in the rear seat bench is up to 540 litres. In addition, there is the 'frunk', a second luggage compartment under the bonnet, with a capacity of 84 litres. This amounts to 136 litres more than the previous model," it said.

As for the new driver experience that Blume highlighted, the Macan is equipped with the latest-generation display and operating concept with up to three screens, including a free-standing 12.6-inch cured-design instrument cluster, and a 10.9-inch central display.

This means passengers can also view information, adjust settings on the infotainment system, or stream video content, while the car is being driven via an optional 10.9-inch screen.

"For the first time, the Porsche Driver Experience also includes a head-up display with augmented reality technology. Virtual elements such as navigation arrows are visually integrated seamlessly into the real world. The image appears to the driver at a distance of 10 metres and corresponds to the size of an 87-inch display," Porsche noted.
