Unicharm begins using business cards containing “recycled pulp”

Unicharm Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Takehisa Takahara) is announcing that it will begin using business cards using “recycled pulp” as a raw material in late January 2024 with the aim of contributing to a sustainable society.

What is the ReFF project

ReFF (leaf) is a neologism coined by Unicharm, taking the acronym “Recycle for the Future.” We are working to recycle used paper pants with the aim of “consumer goods that cannot be consumed,” which is essential for realizing a sustainable society. Through such activities, we hope to create a future where “garbage” that has been disposed of as waste until now becomes a “new raw material” and can be reused for paper pants, etc. Aiming to “realize a better society for the future,” it was named “ReFF: Recycle for the Future.”

Commencement of use of business cards using “recycled pulp” as a raw material

We started the “ReFF Project” in 2015, and succeeded in producing hygienic and safe “recycled pulp” of the same quality as unused pulp using sterilization technology using our proprietary ozone technology.

Since 2022/5, we have been manufacturing and selling products that use this “recycled pulp” as part of the raw material, and they are being used by approximately 60 nursing homes in the Minami Kyushu area.

Therefore, now, in order for more people to know about the “ReFF Project,” we have decided to create business cards using “recycled pulp” as a raw material.

Note that since the amount of “recycled pulp” is limited, it is limited to Unicharm Co., Ltd. employees working within Japan.

Contributing to the “SDGs17 Goals” through the use of business cards containing “recycled pulp”

Unicharm believes that using business cards containing “recycled pulp” will contribute to the following out of the 17 goals set out in the “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals) adopted by the United Nations in 2015.

13. Specific measures against climate change 15. Let's protect the richness of the land

Going forward, we will continue to aim to solve environmental and social issues and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through business activities such as providing products and services.
