M&T Bank Insiders Placed Bullish Bets Worth US$1.82m

Simply Wall St ·  Jan 10 07:05

Over the last year, a good number of insiders have significantly increased their holdings in M&T Bank Corporation (NYSE:MTB). This is encouraging because it indicates that insiders are more optimistic about the company's prospects.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

M&T Bank Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Senior EVP & Chief Financial Officer Daryl Bible made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.2m worth of shares at a price of US$121 each. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$137. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$1.8m for 15.39k shares. But they sold 7.14k shares for US$929k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by M&T Bank insiders. Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders.
