Have Moog Insiders Been Selling Stock?

Have Moog Insiders Been Selling Stock?

Simply Wall St ·  2023/12/13 05:04

Some Moog Inc. (NYSE:MOG.A) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Non-Executive Chairman, John Scannell, recently sold a substantial US$987k worth of stock at a price of US$141 per share. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 8.5%.

Moog Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by John Scannell was the biggest sale of Moog shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$140. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Does Moog Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Moog insiders own about US$48m worth of shares. That equates to 1.1% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Moog Tell Us?

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. But it is good to see that Moog is growing earnings. Insider ownership isn't particularly high, so this analysis makes us cautious about the company. So we'd only buy after careful consideration. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. For instance, we've identified 2 warning signs for Moog (1 is potentially serious) you should be aware of.
