Riot Platforms Insiders Sold US$17m Of Shares Suggesting Hesitancy

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 26, 2023 07:15

The fact that multiple Riot Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:RIOT) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Riot Platforms

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive Chairman, Soo Yi, for US$9.0m worth of shares, at about US$12.49 per share. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$12.02. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).
