Millet, a candidate from the far-right electoral coalition “Liberal Progressive Party”, won the presidential election in Argentina, while Massa, a candidate from the center-left political party “Fatherland Union” and current Minister of Economy of Argentina, lost. Millay advocated a series of measures such as full dollarization, the closure of Argentina's central bank, and cuts in social welfare.
The official results have yet to be announced, but Millet's rival, candidate for the center-left ruling coalition, the Fatherland League, and current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, acknowledged the failure of the election campaign in a public statement. In the first round of voting held on October 22, Massa and Millet won 36.78% and 29.99% of the votes, respectively.
Millay promised to use economic shock therapy. His plans include shutting down the central bank, abandoning the peso and switching to dollars, and cutting spending. Notably, Millerin's challenges are enormous. The treasury is empty, the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) $44 billion debt plan is faltering, the inflation rate is close to 150%, and a series of dazzling capital controls.
