Microsoft (MSFT) announced:

Our efforts to simplify the user experience and make Copilot more accessible to everyone starts with Bing, our leading experience for the web. Beginning today, Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise are becoming Copilot, with commercial data protection enforced when any eligible user is signed in with Microsoft Entra ID. Over time, our vision is to expand Copilot to any Entra ID user at no additional cost—so wherever and whenever an employee signs into Copilot with their work account they will get commercial data protection.

We’re also expanding how users can access Copilot with https://copilot.microsoft.com, available today. It provides a dedicated chat experience and home for Copilot, while Bing.com will continue to be available for users wanting a combined search and chat experience.

And to help Copilot be even more powerful, versatile, and creative, we’re announcing support for OpenAI GPTs. GPTs are a new way for anyone to create a tailored version of Copilot for specific tasks. Combined with the previously announced support of OpenAI schema plugins, GPTs and plugins will open a new opportunity across citizen and professional developers, and provide users with experiences and interactions tailored to meet their needs.

Today, we’re making more announcements about Copilot, including data protection with Microsoft Edge for Business and plugin publishing.

Copilot with commercial data protection becoming generally available, with expansion to Microsoft 365 F3 soon

We're excited to announce that Copilot (formerly Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise) will become generally available on December 1. Since launching Bing Chat, there have been more than 1 billion prompts and queries, and Copilot is already proving to be a confident first step in generative AI for many organizations. With Copilot’s commercial data protection, prompts and responses are not saved, Microsoft has no eyes-on access to it, and it’s not used to train the underlying models. What’s more, Copilot is based on the latest OpenAI models, including GPT-4 and DALL-E 3, offering text and image generation capabilities in one unified experience.

On December 1, Copilot with commercial data protection will be generally available with the following licenses, and eligibility begins for Microsoft 365 F3 for frontline workers. Our intention is to include additional Entra users over time:

Microsoft Edge for Business protects sensitive content accessed with Copilot

Safeguarding company assets and data is vital—Microsoft Edge for Business, a secure enterprise browser optimized for AI, is a key tool for doing so. In addition to commercial data protection built into Copilot, Edge for Business enforces document and website sensitivity labels in the sidebar via Microsoft Purview data loss prevention (DLP), preventing sensitive content from being accessed by Copilot for page summarization.

Copilot only has access to corporate data if the IT admin has allowed employees to explicitly copy and paste the content into their prompt, or while using Copilot in Edge for Business. For example, if a website is not tagged as sensitive, Copilot can access page content and do things like summarize the page or answer questions about its content. However, it cannot view, scrape, or summarize the page content open in Edge for Business that have sensitivity labels enforced by Microsoft Purview DLP.

Plugins for Microsoft Copilot are in preview, with publishing capability coming soon

Earlier this year, we announced plugin support for Microsoft Copilot, helping make it more powerful, versatile, and creative. And because these plugins are based on the OpenAI schema, they can work across both OpenAI ChatGPT and Copilot—including Bing, Edge, Windows, and Microsoft 365 apps—making it easier for developers to expand their reach.

Soon, developers will be able to publish their plugins for Copilot through Microsoft Partner Center, enabling them to reach millions of users across desktop and mobile. To help create high-quality experiences that users come back to again and again, a testing environment will be available to test and improve chat responses for the range of scenarios a plugin serves.
