British clothing and food retailer Marks & Spencer (Marks & Spencer) said on Monday that it will hire 10,000 temporary workers for the Christmas shopping season, an increase of more than 40% over last year.
According to a survey released earlier on the same day by PricewaterhouseCoopers, nearly one-third of British consumers plan to cut their Christmas spending this year, as high inflation continues to put pressure on them.
Despite this, retailers are still preparing for the Christmas shopping season. Tesco Group (TESCO) recently announced that it will hire 30,000 temporary workers, J Sainsbury will hire 22,000 temporary workers, and John Lewis plans to hire more than 10,000 temporary workers at its department store and Waitrose supermarket of the same name.
