Resideo Technologies Insiders Sell US$1.8m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution

Simply Wall St ·  Oct 14, 2023 10:59

In the last year, many Resideo Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:REZI) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Resideo Technologies Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the President of ADI Global Distribution, Robert Aarnes, for US$1.3m worth of shares, at about US$18.37 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$14.73. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Resideo Technologies insiders own 1.4% of the company, worth about US$31m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Resideo Technologies Insiders?
