WSFS Financial Insiders Sell US$633k Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution

Simply Wall St ·  Oct 11, 2023 07:33

Quite a few WSFS Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:WSFS) insiders sold their shares over the past year, which may be a cause for concern. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Francis Leto, for US$484k worth of shares, at about US$46.57 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$37.73. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. WSFS Financial insiders own about US$25m worth of shares. That equates to 1.1% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Do The WSFS Financial Insider Transactions Indicate?
