Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.31%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.22%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which rose 0.99% or 1.43 points to trade at 146.52 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 0.62% or 1.10 points to end at 179.07 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) was up 0.46% or 0.89 points to 195.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 4.34% or 1.65 points to trade at 36.34 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 3.62% or 3.08 points to end at 81.94 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) shed 1.11% or 5.40 points to 480.66.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which rose 4.21% to 122.09, The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which was up 3.36% to settle at 39.36 and Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which gained 2.96% to close at 65.74.
The worst performers were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was down 4.34% to 36.34 in late trade, Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) which lost 3.62% to settle at 81.94 and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:FCX) which was down 3.41% to 38.82 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Connexa Sports Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CNXA) which rose 160.11% to 0.20, Avinger Inc (NASDAQ:AVGR) which was up 72.16% to settle at 10.45 and Rackspace Technology Inc (NASDAQ:RXT) which gained 35.81% to close at 2.01.
The worst performers were Digital Transformation Opportunities Corp (NASDAQ:DTOC) which was down 52.76% to 13.70 in late trade, Histogen Inc (NASDAQ:HSTO) which lost 40.04% to settle at 0.40 and Heart Test Laboratories Inc Unit (NASDAQ:HSCS) which was down 38.99% to 0.42 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1683 to 1187 and 120 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1960 fell and 1484 advanced, while 163 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.79% to 14.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.05% or 0.95 to $1,952.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.31% or 0.28 to hit $90.86 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.24 to trade at $94.67 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.18% to 147.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.83.
