Activision Blizzard Inc's (NASDAQ:ATVI) "Diablo 4" became the best-selling game in the U.S. in June.

According to Circana's data, the title is also the third best-selling game of the year, following Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc's (NASDAQ:WBD) "Hogwarts Legacy" and Nintendo Company Ltd's (OTC:NTDOY) "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom."

Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (OTC:SQNXF) "Final Fantasy 16" secured the second spot for best-selling game in June, but its sales slowed down after selling three million copies during its initial launch week. Meanwhile, the third place belongs to Capcom Co., Ltd's (OTC:CCOEF) "Street Fighter 6."

Mat Piscatella, Executive Director & Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana, revealed that the U.S. video game market experienced a 9% year-on-year growth, reaching $4.7 billion. "It was the second-highest spending ever achieved in a June month, trailing only June 2021's $4.8B," he highlighted.

In June, spending on video game content saw a significant increase of 7% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of $4.1 billion. Notably, Console & PC Digital Premium Download spending witnessed a remarkable surge, rising by over 50% year-on-year.

Circana's report also disclosed that Sony Group Corp.'s (NYSE:SONY) PlayStation 5 dominated the hardware market as the best-selling platform in both unit and dollar sales. Consumer spending on PlayStation hardware reached its highest total for a June month since 2008, with unit sales achieving their highest level since June 2010.

"PlayStation 5 continues to lead the 2023 hardware market across both units and dollars," Piscatella added.

Moreover, the PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge remains the best-selling accessory of 2023 in dollar sales.
