We Ran A Stock Scan For Earnings Growth And Pan-United (SGX:P52) Passed With Ease

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.' Loss making companies can act like a sponge for capital - so investors should be cautious that they're not throwing good money after bad.

In contrast to all that, many investors prefer to focus on companies like Pan-United (SGX:P52), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so you'd expect share price to follow earnings per share (EPS) outcomes eventually. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. Pan-United managed to grow EPS by 12% per year, over three years. That's a pretty good rate, if the company can sustain it.

So those who are interested in Pan-United will be delighted to know that insiders have shown their belief, holding a large proportion of the company's shares. In fact, they own 72% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders.
